Fifty years ago, It used to be a lovely street with nice coffee shop , benches to read newspaper in the morning sun and artists waiting to be discovered. It is has now become an awful place. Apart from tourist shops that you could find in any other places that sell the same thing over and over again at a ridiculously high price.
At night you can find people selling anything legal or not, lots of prostitute too. To avoid at all cost. I loved this street. I could walk the whole day. There are locals, tourist, brands etc everything that you can ask for. Going to Barcelona and not making a visit to Las Ramblas would be a shame.
For me the most fascinating thing was the La Boqueira.. I just loved the place. If you are lucky,you could get to see Marilyn Monroe waiving from the balcony. All in all.. We visited here most days just quickly tho the street is extremely busy and noisy and one of the only places our son couldn't cope with. This place is wonderful - only advice - souvenirs and food are more expensive - go one to two streets back and you'll find much better merchandise and food and drink.
A must see tho! You're safe the the early morning to visit it if you don't like crowds. The only thing we found worth walking down that way for was the market. Delicious fruit and other food options empanadas especially. Just want our thing. If you're looking for a bathroom try McDonald's. I would advice to stay near to Las Ramblas but not on it as its very busy and noisy. Although there are lots of restaurants and bars along its entire length I would advice all to walk along many of the side streets where you will find well priced and far better quality restaurants.
Great place to take an evening walk, a street full of life and motion. Tons of things for sale, for tourists or people longing for ice cream. It takes you down to the beautiful harbour. Also plenty of places to eat, sometimes right there on the street. We read about many many restaurants on TA and unfortunately almost all have really bad scores, are over priced or not tasty food.
